Silicon Gallery Fine Art Prints does not use a Postscript®
RIP to print images. Subsequently printing QuarkXPress files are problematic
for a number of reasons. The biggest problem we encounter is with fonts
and the inconsistency using fonts of the same name across different computers.
There is a great proliferation of fonts floating around the "ether" and subsequently we have found that some fonts named identically are actually different. This may be in character widths or extended characters. Because of this we would prefer that QuarkXPress files be converted to Photoshop format by the originator on your own computer to ensure there are no inconsistencies. This is a relatively simple job. Instructions for converting QuarkXPress files Open the file in Quark and save the page as an EPS file Now launch Photoshop and open the saved EPS file. By default Photoshop will open the file at 72 dpi and the size of the original plus ¼" (for bleed). Change the resolution to 150 dpi and make sure the size is correct. This should be the final size of the print. The mode should be RGB color unless the Quark file contained CMYK image files. Anti aliased and constrain proportions boxes should be checked. Click OK be aware that this could take several minutes to open. When the file is open make a visual check of the contents and then Save the file as a native Photoshop file (PSD).
