<- three of our FOUR IRIS 3047 printers

The IRIS 3047

Digital printmaking is a relatively new printmaking technique but the quality and flexibility in choice of print materials with IRIS 3047 printer has made it the industry leader for professional artists. The term giclée print (pronounced 'ghee-clay') is often used for these prints. This literally means "spraying of ink". At this point in time however we prefer the term more generic term ink jet print. They originally cost over $100,000 but now you can buy a new one (made under the name IXIA) for the bargain price of around $80,000

The IRIS 3047 printer is the only ink jet printer that provides a variable droplet size when printing your image. The printer uses piezo-electric crystal technology to produce four million ink droplets per second. The droplets are less than the size of a human blood corpuscle. Using proprietary technology these mini-droplets are combined and sprayed onto the paper to produce the image at an apparent resolution of 1800 dpi. This results in unsurpassed detail throughout the image and a rich but subtle color range for your prints.

The printer uses four water based dyes, cyan, magenta, yellow and black (four color process) to create the image and it can print on almost any material up to 35 x 47" that can be affixed to the drum. Choices include paper, plastic, leather and wood. Careful selection of a substrate compatible with the archival inks and your image adds not only the aesthetic appeal but the color gamut and longevity of the finished print.
