Silicon uses a Epson 9500P ink jet printer which uses brilliant colored pigmented inks. These pigmented inks have a longevity of 100 - 200 years depending on the material used for printing. The Epson is a sheet fed and/or roll fed printer so it can print up to 42" wide by a length that is only limited by the paper.

Rather than using the variable sized droplet technology perfected on the IRIS, the Epson uses six specially formulated inks in different concentrations. The Epson has six inks, cyan, magenta, yellow and black with an additional light cyan and light magenta to hold detail in the lighter areas of the image. Using these inks the printer can produce an apparent resolution of up to 1400 dpi. The inks are also waterproof which makes the prints suitable for overpainting. We can, and have, printed on wallpaper that has been specially prepared for this printer.
